A colonoscopy is a safe procedure that lets a doctor examine the mucosal lining of the entire large intestine (colon) and rectum using a flexible camera scope.
It is the gold standard diagnostic tool for identifying colon polyps, inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis & Crohn's Disease), unexplained rectal bleeding, and early-stage colorectal cancer.
Polyps detected during colonoscopy can be snare-removed immediately during the same procedure (polypectomy), preventing future colon cancer progression.
