About Variceal Bleed Ligation (EVL)

Endoscopic Variceal Ligation (EVL) is a life-saving emergency therapeutic procedure performed for patients with liver cirrhosis presenting with severe blood vomiting (hematemesis).

Portal hypertension in cirrhosis causes swollen veins (varices) in the esophageal lining that can rupture and bleed profusely.

Using an endoscopic multi-band ligator attached to the scope tip, rubber O-bands are deployed tightly around bleeding varices to stop hemorrhage instantly.

Care Hospital provides 24x7 emergency EVL services with dedicated intensive care backup.
