Flexible Sigmoidoscopy is an endoscopic examination that allows the gastroenterologist to visualize the lower third of the large intestine (rectum and sigmoid colon).
It is an invaluable diagnostic tool for evaluating symptoms such as bleeding per rectum, pain with bowel movements, persistent diarrhea, and inflammatory bowel disease (Ulcerative Colitis).
Requires less extensive bowel preparation than a full colonoscopy and is typically completed quickly and comfortably.
